NBC News: McConnell says he’s ‘100 percent’ focused on ‘stopping’ Biden’s administration
U.S. Senators Todd Young and Mike Braun deliver extreme partisanship to rural communities, despite American Rescue Plan delivering millions in COVID-19 relief
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today called out the Indiana Republican Party for blindly following U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s lead in deploying a familiar strategy Hoosiers saw a decade ago: obstructing the (Democratic) President of the United States at all costs. McConnell on Wednesday claimed he was “100-percent focused” “on stopping” President Biden and his goals to pass the American Jobs Plan and the American Families Plan, a similar move he used against former President Barack Obama a decade ago.
Indiana Republicans have already been hard at work putting their extreme partisanship ahead of passing common-sense solutions. It’s why every Republican in the Indiana Congressional delegation voted against the American Rescue Plan and have pledged to oppose the upcoming American Jobs Plan. Further, U.S. Senators Todd Young and Mike Braun both criticized these “pork-filled bills” despite communities like Blackford ($2.3 million) and Fayette ($4.4 million) counties receiving millions to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. The Indiana Republican Party would rather actively lie and mislead than get things done for Hoosiers.
This is why the Indiana Democratic Party is delivering for Hoosiers, because they deserve responsible government at the local, state, and federal levels. It’s why Congressmen André Carson and Frank Mrvan, Jr. and statehouse Democrats supported the Rescue Plan and its policies that delivered $1,400 checks to 91-percent of Hoosiers and $250 million in broadband expansion projects. When Hoosiers elect Democrats, stuff gets done and it’s because Indiana Democrats value partnership ahead of dangerous partisanship.
NBC News: McConnell says he’s ‘100 percent’ focused on ‘stopping’ Biden’s administration
“Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said Wednesday he is “100 percent” focused “on stopping” President Joe Biden’s administration.” […]
“‘One-hundred percent of our focus is on stopping this new administration,’ McConnell said, adding, ‘We’re confronted with severe challenges from a new administration, and a narrow majority of Democrats in the House and a 50-50 Senate to turn America into a socialist country, and that’s 100 percent of my focus.’ […]
“He was asked Wednesday if it is concerning that a significant number of GOP voters don’t believe Biden won.
‘One-hundred percent of my focus is on standing up to this administration,’ he responded, reiterating his earlier comments. ‘What we have in the United States Senate is totally unity from Susan Collins to Ted Cruz in opposition to what the new Biden administration is trying to do to this country.’
McConnell’s comments drew comparisons to remarks he made about then-President Barack Obama to the National Journal just prior to the 2010 midterms.”
“But Biden added he “was able to get a lot done with” McConnell regardless.
Vice President Kamala Harris told reporters the administration has ‘been very clear’ that it ‘will continue to attempt to work on the most pressing issues facing the American people in a bipartisan manner, which is why we’ve been holding meetings in the Oval Office with bipartisan members of Congress.’
She added the Biden team believes bipartisan action is ‘possible, and we’re not going to give up on that until it becomes evident that it’s not possible.’
When it comes to working with the other party, a recent CBS/YouGov poll found that 61 percent of American adults say congressional Republicans are opposing Biden as much as possible, compared to 39 percent who say Republicans are looking for common ground with Biden. Meanwhile, 58 percent say they believe Biden is trying to work with congressional Republicans, compared to 42 percent who say they believe he is not.”
