ICYMI: Jackie Walorski, Jim Banks, Jim Baird, and Greg Pence all voted to overturn the 2020 presidential election results
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today criticized Republicans in Indiana’s Congressional delegation for voting against the creation of a bipartisan commission that would investigate all information about the insurrection against the United States on January 6, 2021. This domestic attack occurred at the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to stop the certification of the 2020 presidential election results. The House Republicans’ vote against this common-sense commission is another example of the INGOP putting their extreme partisanship and allegiance to the former president ahead of the fundamental values of our nation.
It’s worth remembering: Congresswoman Jackie Walorski and Congressmen Jim Banks, Jim Baird, and Greg Pence all voted to overturn the presidential election results (despite being on the ballot themselves) and end American democracy as we know it. This vote further solidifies how the Indiana Republican Party has lost its own identity.
“Hoosiers are witnessing a political party show them American democracy and national security are values they no longer carry as elected officials. This is a warning sign for voters because this vote reveals Indiana Republicans’ have lost their identity and that their blind partisanship truly has no limits,” said Drew Anderson, spokesman for the Indiana Democratic Party. “Elected Republicans are so obsessed with joining Donald Trump’s fan club that they would rather toss out the freedoms our nation has championed for centuries than tell their voters the truth: the former president lost in the most secure election in modern history, and the Republican Party literally stands for nothing.”
The Indiana Republican Party has fully subscribed to this extreme partisanship by also voting “no” on the American Rescue Plan last March. In fact, despite accepting the cash and promoting popular policies of the relief package – Republicans like U.S. Senator Mike Braun are actively rooting against the success of the law and Indiana’s recovery from COVID-19. Hoosiers should expect nothing less from the INGOP, because it’s become clear they are struggling with an identity crisis and would rather base their agenda on a partisan litmus test aimed to appeal to an unpopular, out-of-office, one-term president.
