INGOP spent all summer providing lip service to Hoosiers on infrastructure issues like broadband, roads, and bridges
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today criticized the Indiana Republicans in the state’s Congressional delegation for their upcoming opposition to the bipartisan infrastructure deal that is expected to deliver more than $6.6 billion to Indiana for good-paying jobs, broadband expansion, and repairs to the state’s crumbling roads and bridges. This upcoming investment is a part of President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better agenda and incorporates many elements of the proposed American Jobs Plan. Further, the bill expands on broadband and infrastructure investments U.S. Congressmen André Carson and Frank Mrvan and Democrats at the statehouse delivered for Hoosier families – including $250 million for broadband – via the American Rescue Plan.
For all of 2021, Indiana Democrats have delivered for Indiana and its families – without any help from the Indiana Republican Party. In fact, Republicans like Larry Bucshon, Victoria Spartz, Todd Young, and Mike Braun have all claimed to Hoosiers they value policies like broadband expansion and infrastructure investment – but all of them voted “NO” on the American Rescue Plan and oppose the upcoming bipartisan package. Indiana Republicans keep proving to Hoosiers they value shallow lip service and a form of extreme partisanship that does nothing but divide communities and families across Indiana.
Once this bipartisan infrastructure bill is signed into law by President Joe Biden, the Indiana Democratic Party looks forward to hitting the road once again to share this good news and investments in Indiana’s 92 counties. Just like its American Rescue Plan and American Jobs Plan statewide tours, this effort will once again highlight how it is the Democrats who deliver and create a better future for Hoosier families.

Earlier this week, the White House released state-by-state fact sheets showing additional spending from the $550 billion package. It shows Indiana would receive $6.6 billion for federal-aid highway programs and $401 million for bridge replacement and repair.
Public transportation systems in Indiana would see an additional $682 million through existing formula-based programs, and the state also could expect $100 million over five years to support the expansion of its electric vehicle, or EV, charging network.
The act also includes assistance for broadband internet service expansion. Indiana would receive a minimum of $100 million to help improve service, including by providing broadband access to the 217,000 Hoosiers who currently lack it. Further, an estimated 1.6 million people in Indiana would be eligible for the Affordability Connectivity Benefit, which will help low-income families afford internet access.
The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act also includes competitive grant programs that could provide additional funding for road and internet infrastructure. […]
Supporters say the five-year spending package would be paid for by tapping $205 billion in unspent COVID-19 relief aid and $53 billion in unemployment insurance aid some states have halted. It also relies on economic growth to bring in $56 billion, as well as other measures.
