INDIANAPOLIS — Republican Jefferson Shreve released a new ad titled, “Abortion with Jefferson Shreve” highlighting his commitment to not work against the abortion ban if elected mayor.
“In this campaign, Jefferson said he believes the mayor has a bully pulpit to fight for issues, but not when it comes to a woman’s right to choose. Jefferson continues to hide his ads from his 2016 State Senate campaign when he ran on an explicitly anti-choice platform. It’s another example of Jefferson saying and doing anything possible to get elected,” said Indiana Democratic Party Chair Mike Schmuhl.
“The residents of Indianapolis oppose the extreme near-total abortion ban from the Statehouse Republican supermajority because they know it hurts women’s freedoms and the economic future of the city. Mayor Joe is against this draconian law and will actively fight to reverse it. This fall, Indianapolis will re-elect a mayor who is standing up for women instead of one that will simply look away as rights are taken away and jobs are threatened.”
The contrast on this issue is stark. Mayor Joe has been vocal in opposition to this ban since the fall of Roe v. Wade last year. Jefferson has donated sums of money to anti-abortion candidates, including Mike Pence, and ran an unabashedly conservative Republican campaign for State Senate centered on “protecting the unborn”.
Most recently, Mayor Joe wrote an op-ed to the Indianapolis Star about restoring the right to choose, while Jefferson Shreve is attempting to conceal his anti-choice beliefs.
