American Rescue Plan lifts 80,000 Indiana kids out of poverty, delivers a $1,600 per child tax credit for families with 1.5 million children, and provides $1,400 checks for Hoosiers
Indy City Councillor Blake Johnson: “…Simply put, Senator Braun will fight like hell for 25,000 of Indiana’s 2.6M households”
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today criticized U.S. Senator Mike Braun for some pretty tone-deaf opposition to the American Rescue Plan. While struggling Hoosiers are getting some much-needed relief during the pandemic, Braun is upset that households with an income of more than $400,000 – about 25,000 Hoosiers – will see a tax increase.
“The Biden tax hike would be for *households* making $400k a year – not individuals, doubling the impact this policy would have.” – U.S. Senator Mike Braun on the American Rescue Plan
You read that right. Senator Braun is opposed to the American Rescue Plan, which has an approval of 75-percent of Americans, because the law delivers relief to struggling families and not rich people like himself. Unfortunately, Braun now joins Indiana Republicans like U.S. Senator Todd Young by delivering lackluster excuses for voting against Hoosier families. It’s the very reason why Hoosiers are losing trust in the Indiana Republican Party.
Senator Braun’s Entire Statement
U.S. Senator Mike Braun: “The Biden tax hike would be for *households* making $400k a year – not individuals, doubling the impact this policy would have.
Bureaucrats might not know it, but most spouses file jointly, and a couple each making 200k would have their taxes go up. @MariaBartiromo @cvpayne”
The Reaction
Indy City Councillor Blake Johnson: “This is a weird flex from Senator Braun. In Indiana, if your household is making more than $310,000 per year, you are in the top 1% of earners. Simply put, Senator Braun will fight like hell for 25,000 of Indiana’s 2.6M households.”
IndyStar’s James Briggs: “Braun is so bad at being a Republican politician that even when he tries to own the libs, he tweets a self-own. There’s no universe in which he becomes a U.S. senator but for the money that places his household in this tax stratosphere, and he can’t help but remind us.”
NPR’s Brock Turner: “According to the US Census Bureau, the median income for a Hoosier household is $57,603.”
