Senator Braun: “Republicans should not support any spending bills this year unless they include funding for the border wall.”
The 2022 NDAA spending package is currently in debate on Capitol Hill
Do Jim Banks, Eric Holcomb, Todd Young agree? Should Republicans vote “NO” on funding the military?
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today criticized U.S. Senator Mike Braun for his newest extreme and partisan crusade: defunding the United States military. In a tweet last night, Braun claimed the Indiana Republican Party should not “support any spending bills this year unless they include funding for the border wall”. Senator Braun is referring to the FY2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which is currently up for debate in the U.S. Senate. So in just one year, Indiana Republicans will have voted to defund the police and the United States armed forces.
Questions: Do Jim Banks, Eric Holcomb, and Todd Young – all veterans and Republicans – agree with Braun’s partisanship? Should the Indiana Republican Party defund the U.S. military?
“First they defund the police and now Republicans like Mike Braun want to defund our military? This isn’t just extreme partisanship, it’s the Indiana Republican Party wanting to cause a national security crisis over partisan politics,” said Drew Anderson, spokesman for the Indiana Democratic Party. “Indiana Republicans keep showing they do not care about our nation’s future. For them, they care more about their partisanship – like saying ‘NO’ to the American Rescue Plan, The Jobs Act, and now the U.S. military – than building a brighter tomorrow for Hoosier families.”
Thanks to Mike Braun, this is also another opportunity to discuss the Indiana Republican Party’s record on funding and protecting Indiana’s first responders. Democrats have consistently called out Indiana Republicans for voting against the $350 billion effort to recruit new law enforcement officers and fight crime across the nation, including for Indiana. This vote was a part of President Biden’s American Rescue Plan, which also delivered bonuses to police officers and first responders in Noblesville. Every single Republican in Indiana’s Congressional delegation voted “no” on the legislation, and in turn, they voted to defund the police.
