Fox News: Senator Braun says Americans should be ‘outraged’ after states pocketed COVID-19 relief cash
Can Senator Braun point out an Indiana-specific investment he’s against?
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today called on U.S. Senator Mike Braun to clarify which American Rescue Plan program he opposes in the Hoosier State. In an interview with Fox News last Friday, Braun claimed voters should be “outraged” to learn how states are choosing to spend their COVID-19 relief funds, using the opportunity to criticize the overall price tag and spending of this transformative law that’s gotten Indiana and the United States back on its feet after the pandemic.
Indiana Democrats have this question for Mike Braun: Which American Rescue Plan project in Indiana is he against?
Since President Joe Biden’s signature, the Rescue Plan is creating a brighter future for Indiana and its families. The state’s READI program is entirely funded by the COVID-19 relief law, as is Governor Holcomb’s Next Level Connections program ($250 million). Further, law enforcement received funding to combat crime, teachers were provided a well-deserved raise, schools received funding not seen since 2008, about $540 million is being used to solve the state’s childcare crisis, and all 92 counties were given investments to address community needs – like revitalizing local infrastructure.
Mike Braun’s opposition to the American Rescue Plan is a political stunt based more out of the Indiana Republican Party’s culture wars than an actual vision for the state. In fact, Indiana GOP Chairman Kyle Hupfer called transformative projects like READI or broadband “socialism” – claiming their opposition was a “great campaign to run on”. Democrats will highlight the Indiana GOP’s “NO” record and their divisive culture wars throughout the 2022 campaign year and beyond.
Fox News: Senator Braun says Americans should be ‘outraged’ after states pocketed COVID-19 relief cash
“Sen. Mike Braun, R-Ind., said Americans across the country should be “outraged” after states pocketed COVID-19 relief funds to use for pet projects.
Hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars from President Biden’s signature American Rescue Plan have been spent by states on frivolous projects.
Braun is calling for the earmarked funds to be repaid and lambasted the Democrats over their handling of taxpayer dollars contained in the COVID-19 relief bill.
“Last year, I predicted that the American people would be ‘outraged’ when they found out what was in Democrats’ so-called ‘COVID relief’ bill: a bunch of payoffs, waste and a recipe for runaway inflation,” Braun told Fox News Digital in an exclusive statement.
“Nancy Pelosi doesn’t care that you’re getting gouged as long as she gets her luxury hotels and ski slopes paid for on your dime,” Braun added. “I’m still outraged, and now that Americans see what was in that bill, they should be too.”
President Biden’s signature legislation — the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan — allocated $350 billion to assist struggling localities and states get through the COVID-19 pandemic.” […]
