INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Democratic Party Chairman John Zody issued the following statement regarding Indiana Republicans’ stated desire to fight the opioid epidemic and legislative efforts on health care.
“Eric Holcomb. Todd Young. Jackie Walorski. Jim Banks. Todd Rokita. Susan Brooks. Luke Messer. Larry Bucshon. Trey Hollingsworth. They’ve nearly all made statements about their desire to combat Indiana’s opioid epidemic. But every member of Indiana’s Republican House Congressional Delegation has so far voted to cut Medicaid, an instrumental program in fighting Indiana’s opioid crisis. Eric Holcomb seems to have voiced his support for the cuts, even when as many as six of his GOP governor colleagues have said they can’t support them. Todd Young is poised to support them. Statements are one thing. Actions are another. You can’t be both for the GOP’s health care bills and say you’re doing everything you can for Hoosiers facing addiction. It’s one or the other and Hoosiers are watching.”
