WRTV’s Ray Steele: “Term-limited Gov. Eric Holcomb is fundraising off his opposition to ‘federal vaccine mandates on private businesses’, even though it’s not actually a vaccine mandate.”
IndyStar: “Holcomb in 2017 signed a bill requiring a meningitis vaccine for all public college students, a mandate that had already been in place for K-12 students”
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today called out Governor Eric Holcomb and Indiana Republicans for their hypocrisy on vaccine mandates. Yesterday, Holcomb sent a campaign email blasting President Joe Biden’s new strategy to help Indiana put COVID-19 in the rearview mirror — something Holcomb hasn’t done in 169 days. The irony: Eric Holcomb and the Republican supermajority at the statehouse passed a vaccine mandate in 2017 for colleges and universities, the same policy their partisanship has opposed all year.
Eric Holcomb and the Indiana Republican Party have made clear they care more about abiding by their extreme partisanship than using the “facts on the ground” against the coronavirus. It’s why Indiana has reached its “darkest time” during COVID-19. According to the facts, coronavirus cases have reached levels not seen since January 19, hospitalizations are hitting capacity marks not seen since December 16, 2020, and deaths (including presumptive) are now reaching 15,000 Hoosiers lost.
Meanwhile, Indiana Democrats have used every lever possible to deliver for Hoosier families. Despite universal opposition from Indiana Republicans, U.S. Congressmen André Carson and Frank Mrvan passed the American Rescue Plan, which delivered vaccines in arms and relief for both families and cities and towns across Indiana. This Democrats’ Build Back Better agenda – which includes the upcoming American Jobs Plan – is approved by a large majority of Americans and Hoosiers.

IndyStar: “Holcomb in 2017 signed a bill requiring a meningitis vaccine for all public college students, a mandate that had already been in place for K-12 students. That came after Republican supermajorities in the state House and Senate passed the bill. In the midst of Donald Trump’s presidency, Indiana created a vaccine mandate that wasn’t very notable.”
