WDRB: $100 million plan to build EV charging stations in Indiana receives federal approval
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today celebrated the brighter future President Joe Biden’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (The Jobs Act) is STILL creating for the Crossroads of America. This time, the Biden Administration announced it approved the state’s plans to expand the state’s electric vehicle (EV) system across Indiana. The plans will use the Jobs Act’s $100 million allocation for the state and will transform the future of Indiana’s auto industry and families in all 92 counties. This network will provide Hoosiers who own EVs numerous sites to “charge up” in their hometowns.
The best part: The Jobs Act is expected to create good, union jobs and improve on the state’s F-rated quality of life for families.
U.S. Congressmen André Carson and Frank Mrvan joined President Biden by voting “YES” on The Jobs Act last fall. Thanks to this once-in-a-generation law, investments on Indiana’s infrastructure systems will create union jobs for workers, expand the state’s EV charging network, and create a brighter future for Hoosiers in all 92 counties. This better tomorrow is made possible because Democrats delivered when it mattered most.
In contrast, not one Indiana Republican in Congress supported The Jobs Act. Despite GOP U.S. Senator Rob Portman confirming this infrastructure law would combat inflation, Indiana Republicans like Todd Young voted “NO” – putting his extremist agenda ahead of the state’s future.

WDRB: $100 million plan to build EV charging stations in Indiana receives federal approval
A plan to invest $100 million over five years into electric vehicle charging stations in Indiana was approved by the U.S. Federal Highway Administration.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, the plan will involve building at least 44 charging stations statewide. This will guarantee every Hoosier will be within 40 miles of a charging station, INDOT said.
The installation of the charging stations is being funded by the National Electric Vehicle infrastructure (NEVI) program, which was created after the passage of President Joe Biden’s 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. […]
“A robust network of convenient, reliable charging infrastructure is essential to addressing range anxiety for electric vehicle owners,” INDOT Commissioner Mike Smith said in a news release. “Through the NEVI program, Indiana will work with private and public partners to make strategic investments in charging infrastructure along our highways to support the growing number of EV’s traveling throughout our state.”
This comes almost a year to the day after Gov. Eric Holcomb joined four other governors to sign the Regional Electric Vehicle for the Midwest Memorandum of Understanding. The agreement’s purpose was to set up an electric vehicle charging network across Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin, collectively accelerating vehicle electrification in the Midwest Region.
By 2030, an estimated 105,000 new jobs in the utility sector are anticipated to be needed to deploy the EV charging infrastructure. […]
Installation of the charging stations is expected to begin in 2024.
