Yahoo News/YouGov: Americans broadly support the details of President Biden’s infrastructure plan
ICYMI: ‘YES PLEASE’: Amtrak proposal with new Indianapolis routes has people talking
This Week: Statehouse fight over Indianapolis bus rapid transit is resurrected in a new way
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today added another reason why Indiana needs President Joe Biden’s American Jobs Plan (AJP): investment in Indiana’s public transportation. Nearly 38-percent of transit vehicles in the state are past their useful life, causing Hoosiers to take nearly 89-percent of extra time for their commutes. Modernizing Indiana’s public transportation system will help many hard-working Hoosiers expedite their travel across the state, including people of color who are 4.5 times more likely to use the state’s public transportation services.
The support for the American Jobs Plan and the opportunity it could bring for Indiana and its families couldn’t be more evident. A recent Yahoo News/YouGov poll found a large majority of Americans favored many elements of the AJP. Further, Amtrak announced plans to expand its services throughout Indiana, including rail service between Indianapolis and Louisville. The plans were met with fanfare by Hoosiers because it would fulfill the AJP’s promise to create good-paying jobs, revitalize Indiana’s infrastructure system, and help set up the nation’s economy to outcompete China in the future.
Indiana Democrats believe now is the time for the Indiana Republican Party to join Democrats and a majority of voters — including Republicans — in delivering this once-in-a-century opportunity for hard-working Hoosiers. However, that means Indiana Republicans like State Senator Aaron Freeman would have to set aside their extreme partisanship against organizations like IndyGo and get to work in creating better, more robust infrastructure systems across the state. Opposing the AJP would mean Indiana Republicans aren’t serious because they’ll just put their partisanship ahead of getting things done for workers, unions, families, and the economic future of Indiana.
This crossroads moment for the state is why the Indiana Democratic Party supports the American Jobs Plan. Democrats are ready to get to work and responsibly get things done for all Hoosiers — regardless of politics.
