WFYI: Indiana House GOP Hires D.C. Republican Lawyer For Redistricting
Indianapolis Business Journal: “When asked about transparency, Jon Ford said the maps are drawn behind closed doors…”
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today provided the following recap to illustrate the lip service the Indiana Republican Party provided Hoosiers on the redistricting process. Republicans like Governor Eric Holcomb and State Representative Timothy Wesco promised voters a “fair” and “transparent” process, however, receipts show the elected officials lied and plan to manipulate a broken system that does nothing but benefit self-serving politicians — not Hoosier voters. In fact, Republicans treated the process as more of a box to check than actually addressing voters’ concerns.
Indiana and Hoosier families lost when the INGOP gerrymandered legislative and Congressional maps a decade ago. Indiana Republicans created a “work more for less” economy, underfunded public schools, and unnecessarily waded into numerous culture wars that ruined Indiana’s national reputation. These maps – which were found to be 95-percent more biased than the rest of the nation – led to Republican supermajorities and a reality that has harmed the future of the state.
Indiana Democrats have called for balance to return to our state and federal government representation. Democrats believe now is the time to install fair maps that would benefit Hoosier families and not the special interests that help only self-serving politicians and their donors. Hoosiers and Democrats want fair maps, but the Republicans extreme partisanship will unfortunately continue the status quo and the agenda against Indiana’s future.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: INGOP Breaks Promise, Redistricting Process Anything But “Fair” and “Transparent”
Eric Holcomb, Tim Wesco Promise “Fair” and “Transparent” Redistricting Process
Fox59: “State Rep. Wesco said the process will be fair…”
Fox59: “We asked Gov. Eric Holcomb about those concerns. He maintains the process will be conducted fairly and legally.
‘I’m confident that we’ll have a transparent, open, public welcome, input welcome, and the process will be fair,’ Holcomb said. ‘I won’t sign anything that’s not constitutional.’”
INGOP’s Actions Prove Their Promise on Redistricting Were Meaningless

WFYI: Indiana House GOP Hires D.C. Republican Lawyer For Redistricting
“Indiana House Republicans are working with a national GOP redistricting attorney as they prepare to redraw the state’s legislative district lines.
Attorney Jason Torchinsky works with Republicans around the country to coordinate redistricting efforts. He and his law firm have been involved in multiple legal battles, defending GOP-drawn maps and opposing independent redistricting commissions.
Indiana House Republicans hired Torchinsky and his firm for “legal advice” on redistricting. That could include representation in court, if Republicans get sued over the new maps they draw this year.”
