INDIANAPOLIS – – Rep. Braun still has no real answer for why he supports an upcoming lawsuit designed to strip away those protections from the more than 1.1 million Hoosiers under 65 with a pre-existing condition, his appearance this Sunday on IN Focus showed.
Rep. Braun’s hypocrisy on protections for pre-existing conditions was on full display in a recent interview this past Sunday, where he failed to explain how he could claim to support retaining those protections while also supporting the upcoming lawsuit that the Department of Justice recently joined that would strip them away from millions of Americans. When asked by host Dan Spehler as to how he could “square these two positions,” he couldn’t offer any new explanation and simply repeated his same tired talking points.
Rep. Braun’s answer on Sunday was no surprise, as he has failed over and over again to justify his contradictory stance on pre-existing conditions protections. Over the course of the year, he has backed nearly every proposal to sabotage the health care system, supporting the DOJ’s lawsuit as well as the Senate and House bills that also would have destroyed protections for Hoosiers with pre-existing conditions. Of late, Rep. Braun has been trying to claim that he supports keeping those protections in place, but his support for every major Republican proposal to strip them away makes clear of his phony attempts to have it both ways on this issue.
“No matter how hard he tries, the more than a million Hoosiers with pre-existing conditions can see right through Rep. Braun’s empty rhetoric to his consistent support for policies aimed at stripping those protections away,” said Michael Feldman, spokesman for the Indiana Democratic Party. “Rep. Braun’s defense of pre-existing condition protections is so laughable not only because he has no actual plan to save them, but because he’ll support every GOP attempt to strip them away, no matter how brutal.”
