INDIANAPOLIS – Rep. Braun continues to remain silent on what he thinks the impact of President Trump’s escalating tariffs will be on either his own business or the Hoosiers he hopes to represent even as other Indiana political leaders continue to react.

Last week, President Trump announced that his administration would be imposing steel and aluminum tariffs on key U.S. trading partners, including Canada, Mexico and the EU. The decision also followed the White House’s announcement last Tuesday to impose a 25% tariff on $50 billion worth of Chinese goods.

President Trump’s tariff announcements have drawn the attention of politicians across the Hoosier State within the last week, including Republican Members of Congress.

Rep. Braun, however, has yet to say what he thinks about the impact the tariffs will have on Indiana. It’s an especially pressing question for him, as he may have reason to be concerned beyond his political ambitions: Rep. Braun’s business has repeatedly imported shipments of Chinese auto parts, and his business’ website advertises suppliers based in Canada, Mexico, and other foreign countries affected by the tariffs, driving speculation that the president’s latest announcements may have a significant impact on his costs and bottom line.

“While Hoosiers are making their voices heard on the president’s tariffs, Rep. Braun’s silence continues to display his utter lack of leadership on such an important issue and what it means for Hoosiers,” said Michael Feldman, spokesman for the Indiana Democratic Party. “Is Rep. Braun concerned at all about the tariffs’ impact on Hoosiers, or even their impact on his business’s Chinese imports? Rep. Braun wants to lead Hoosiers, but he can’t even be found to take a position on how these tariffs will affect them.”
