Indiana House GOP passes House Bill 1116, continues culture war session at statehouse
Don’t forget: Holli Sullivan: Indiana’s election process safe, secure
ICYMI: Jim Baird, Jim Banks, Greg Pence, and Jackie Walorski all vote to overturn the 2020 presidential election results
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today issued the following statement by Chairman Mike Schmuhl after the Indiana House of Representatives passed House Bill 1116, legislation that would restrict a Hoosier’s right to vote. The Indiana GOP continues the national strategy to diminish American democracy and its culture war agenda at the statehouse. Further, the vote follows the effort by the Congressional GOP to overturn the 2020 presidential election results:
“Secretary of State Holli Sullivan has assured Hoosiers that Indiana’s elections are fair and secure. Even with these facts, Indiana Republicans still want to limit a person’s ability to vote. What’s even more concerning is that House Bill 1116 joins a national effort by Republicans to diminish our American democracy. The more the Indiana Republican Party transforms itself into the Culture War Party, the more I worry there will be another time when Congressional Republicans like Jim Banks or Victoria Spartz would vote to overturn a free and fair election simply because their party lost. Every Hoosier has a right to access their ballot, and legislation like House Bill 1116 is another extreme crusade in search of a problem that does not exist.”
– Mike Schmuhl, Chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party
