In SOTS Address, Holcomb expected to highlight economic program Democrats fully-funded via the American Rescue Plan

Don’t Forget: INGOP Chair Hupfer and Indiana Republicans call Indiana’s READI program “socialism” 

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today celebrated how the American Rescue Plan has “anchored” Indiana’s economic future via the state’s READI program. Governor Eric Holcomb is expected to tout READI and its $500 million economic investment in tonight’s State of the State Address. But here’s the thing: the Democrats’ Rescue Plan paid for all of it, and these projects will transform towns and counties in all regions because Democrats – not Republicans – showed up when it mattered most. And the Indiana GOP? Every Indiana Republican opposed the Rescue Plan – including Governor Holcomb himself. 

What’s worse, Indiana Republican Party Chairman Kyle Hupfer and Indiana Republicans like Todd Young have called programs like READI “socialism” and a “boondoggle”. Indiana Democrats will remind Hoosiers all 2022 that the Indiana GOP said “NO”, called the READI program “socialism”, and still took the dough. 

“The American Rescue Plan and Indiana’s READI program are prime examples of what happens when bipartisan ideas create a better future for all Hoosiers. Thanks to the Rescue Plan, READI’s $500 million will bring transformational change for communities in all areas of the state — despite all Indiana Republicans voting ‘NO’ and describing the program as ‘socialism’,” said Mike Schmuhl, Chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party. “The Indiana Economic Development Corporation calls READI an ‘anchor’ for the state’s economic future, and Democrats – not Republicans – delivered these investments when it mattered most. Indiana Democrats plan to campaign extensively on READI in 2022, and should Republicans continue to call READI a ‘boondoggle’ or ‘socialism’, we will make sure Hoosiers learn about their extreme partisanship and ‘NO’ votes at every opportunity.” 

Indiana Democrats delivered on the American Rescue Plan and this better opportunity for Hoosier families. The Party and its leaders plan to campaign extensively on the Rescue Plan, the state’s READI program, and The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act through the 2022 state and midterm elections. Hoosiers have a brighter future on the horizon, and it’s because Democrats – not Republicans – showed up and got this done for them.
