INDIANAPOLIS – Statehouse Republicans are refusing to investigate the troubled Department of Child Services after former Director Mary Beth Bonaventura warned actions there would “all but ensure children will die”. After conferring with Governor Eric Holcomb, Statehouse Republican leaders agreed the best course of action for the legislature was to do nothing. Vague promises have been made to review recommendations after session gavels out, potentially setting up a costly special session or delaying any needed reforms for 365 days.
Indiana Democratic Party Chairman John Zody questioned Republicans’ priorities.
“Statehouse Republicans have abandoned these children,” said Zody. “Statehouse Republicans are so out-of-touch, they can comfortably turn their backs on a potentially life-threatening situation at the Department of Child Services to debate cursive writing. Statehouse Republicans have lost their moral compass, putting special interests before the lives of abused and neglected children.”
