INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Democratic Party Chairman John Zody issued the following statement on the passing of former Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky President & CEO Betty Cockrum.
“On behalf of Indiana Democrats across the state, we are heartbroken to hear of Betty’s passing. She was so many wonderful things: a champion for women’s health, for good government, for Democratic politics and was a trusted friend to many.
“I first met Betty when I worked in Indiana state government when she was State Budget Director. I, and many others, relied on her candor and knowledge to help the Administration through a tough economic time, which she did with her usual wit and desire to make government work in the best interest of Hoosiers. Following her service in state government, she met several challenges at Planned Parenthood, but through it all fought for the healthcare of women and families in our state.
“Upon her receipt of the Indiana Democratic Party’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017, Betty concluded her speech saying ‘whatever you are, be a good one.’ Betty, we will remember you being just that in so many ways, and we will miss you being with us. Rest in Peace, and your family is in our thoughts.”
