INDIANAPOLIS — Over 1,800 delegates and hundreds of other supporters came from across the state to finalize the Indiana Democratic Party ticket today with former State Rep. Terry Goodin taking the nomination for lieutenant governor to join Jennifer McCormick on the ballot.
Goodin is a born and raised Hoosier farmer, and a former state representative for District 66. He also served as Superintendent of Crothersville Community Schools and the USDA’s Indiana state director for rural development
McCormick announced Goodin as her pick during a press conference on June 20. Their platform is committed to the restoration of reproductive rights, increasing access to education, empowering Indiana’s rural communities, and ensuring that common sense legislation becomes synonymous with the Hoosier state.
“I am honored to have the confidence and support of delegates here at the convention,” said Terry Goodin in a release. “This vote shows the Democratic party is unified and ready to get the job done in November. Dr. McCormick and I will fight to restore reproductive rights and freedoms, champion for our public schools, support high-paying union jobs, and demand responsible tax spending in our state.”
“Indiana deserves to have a Lieutenant Governor that is ready to lead on Day One,” said Jennifer McCormick in a release. “Terry has the character, the competence, and the commitment to service needed by our next Lieutenant Governor.”
“Indiana is in need of strong leaders that are prepared to confront the wrong track our state has been on for the last decade-plus. When people think of Indiana, we want them to know that our state is a safe, healthy place to live, work, and raise children. Terry has done the job throughout his career in public service. He’s been a resolute advocate for unions, educators, and working families throughout our state.
“Our nominee for governor and lieutenant governor are listening, and they hear your concerns. They understand that we need compassionate leadership rather than rampant censoring and control to get the job done. They will stand up against the gerrymandered Republican legislature to pass important legislation focused on families, not special interests. Indiana deserves better now, and this is the team to deliver results for every family” said Indiana Democratic Party Chair Mike Schmuhl.
The Final Results for LG were as follows:
Terry Goodin: 1,209
Tamie Dixon-Tatum: 162
Clif Marsiglio: 145
Bob Kern: 9
