The Indiana Republican Party joins national Republicans in partisan crusade to divide Americans on racism across the nation

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today criticized Attorney General Todd Rokita for once again infusing out-of-touch, extreme partisanship to divide Hoosier families and ignore today’s most pressing issues facing voters. This time, Rokita used his elected office to publish a political document that’s aimed to discredit racism being taught in schools – a factual curriculum that’s been taught in Indiana classrooms for decades. The document is rooted in misinformation and once again showed an attorney general who cares more about his upcoming campaign for Indiana governor than actually tackling some of the most pressing issues facing Indiana and Hoosier families.
Further, Todd Rokita’s latest political crusade continued to highlight an Indiana Republican Party that’s lost its identity and its inability to help create a better future for the state and its hardworking families. The INGOP’s extreme partisanship is in direct opposition to top members of the United States Armed Forces who just yesterday criticized Republicans in Washington, D.C. for pushing this agenda that’s dividing the nation – including enlisted service members.
“It appears Todd Rokita’s 2024 gubernatorial campaign continued today with what is honestly an out-of-touch manifesto that does not reflect the Hoosier or religious values so many of us have been taught in classrooms and church pews for generations. Rokita’s ‘Parents Bill of Rights’ is just an attempt to garner attention, fails to deliver any tangible results for today’s most-pressing issues, and holds Indiana and its families back from future success,” said Drew Anderson, spokesman for the Indiana Democratic Party. “While Democrats wonder how much of this work costs taxpayers, this is the Indiana Republican Party – and it looks like the organization’s extreme partisanship will once again come before Hoosier common sense.”
Todd Rokita’s political stunt also follows a series of attempts by Indiana’s attorney general to appeal to a form of extreme partisanship that views fact, science, and common sense as the enemy rather than a solution. This includes Rokita pledging his allegiance to the former president after the 2020 presidential election results were certified, manufacturing a crusade against a private company’s right to censor hate speech targeting marginalized communities, and wasting taxpayer dollars over frivolous lawsuits against Republican Governor Eric Holcomb and a governor’s ability to respond during emergency situations – like the COVID-19 pandemic.
Democrats believe Hoosiers are looking for substantial action from their elected officials, and the Indiana Democratic Party is ready to deliver for them. The Democrats’ record of passing the American Rescue Plan and tackling the upcoming American Jobs Plan will create a better future for Hoosier families and will be in direct contrast to an Indiana Republican Party that voted against President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan – which provided $5.8 billion in relief to Indiana and its communities and $250 million in broadband internet expansion – and carried out an agenda targeting Indiana’s cities and towns, harassing members of Indiana’s Black Legislative Caucus, and attacking their own Repubican governor.
