Young had a shot to pass immigration reform, but he said “NO” in 2013
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today called out Todd Young for doing absolutely nothing to reform the nation’s immigration system during his 12 years in Congress despite campaigning on the issue. Since March 2010, Young has called for politicians to “beef up border security” and “strictly enforce” current immgration laws. Young even called it a “national security issue” during his 2016 U.S. Senate campaign.
What happened next? Todd Young went to Washington and put immigration on the backburner. In fact, Young had the opportunity to lobby for a comprehensive immigration reform package in 2013, but stayed silent.
The U.S. Senate passed a bipartisan bill in 2013 which would have “beefed up” security along the border, required a mandatory workplace verification system for employers, installed a visa program for low-skilled workers, and established a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. These are issues the Republican Senator has campaigned on since 2010.
Todd Young is disingenuous when it comes to immigration. If he truly cared about this issue, he would have solved it already in Washington. Instead, he’s using immigration as an election-year stunt with voters. Todd Young is the two-faced politician Hoosiers simply do not trust.

The vote was 68-32. Fourteen Republicans crossed the aisle to vote with all Democrats in favor. Thursday’s vote now puts the onus of immigration reform on the Republican-led House, where leaders have been resistant to the Senate legislation.” […]
