Spartz favors promoting vaccines over mandates, but receipts show the Congresswoman has not promoted vaccines in more than 166 days
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today criticized U.S. Congresswoman Victoria Spartz for her hypocritical lip service over COVID-19 vaccines. Spartz claimed the government and businesses should only promote vaccines, not mandate them. However, Spartz herself failed to take her own advice as she has failed to use the power of her office to hold a vaccine campaign across Indiana’s Fifth Congressional District. The last time the Congresswoman advocated for Hoosiers to receive a COVID-19 vaccine was March 26 — 166 days ago. Since then, Indiana has entered its “darkest time” in the fight against the coronavirus.
Congresswoman Spartz’s hypocrisy fits a pattern of Indiana Republicans saying one thing but doing another on the coronavirus pandemic. Like Spartz, Governor Eric Holcomb has failed to hold a media briefing for 161 days and almost every single Indiana Republican in state and Congressional leadership has failed to execute a COVID-19 vaccine campaign. The reason: the Republicans’ extreme partisanship and their refusal to tell Hoosiers the truth about what science-based solutions Indiana must do to put the coronavirus permanently behind them.
Indiana Democrats have done everything possible to help Hoosier families put the pandemic behind them. U.S. Congressmen André Carson and Frank Mrvan helped pass the American Rescue Plan, which delivered vaccines in arms and relief for both families and cities and towns across Indiana. Every Republican in Indiana’s Congressional Delegation voted “NO”.

Current in Carmel: “For most people, the vaccine can prevent very serious illness, and I think it’s important for us to promote that, but it should always be a personal choice what you want to put inside your body. You should never have the government tell you what (to put in your body).
Plus, people have different circumstances, and I think people need to be given information they can discuss with their doctor and look at risk and rewards.”

Neither have most of the Indiana congressional delegation beyond U.S. Rep. Larry Bucshon, a heart surgeon by trade.”
