INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today issued the following statement from Chairman Mike Schmuhl after a bombshell report indicated Diego Morales – the candidate who made voter fraud a centerpiece of his campaign for Indiana Secretary of State – may have committed voter fraud himself in 2018: 

“Hoosier voters have learned that secretary of state candidate Diego Morales is a fraud — and now it appears he actually committed voter fraud at the ballot box. The secretary of state is Indiana’s top election official and must protect every voter. How can we trust Diego Morales to keep our elections safe and secure when he’s breaking election laws himself? 

Whether it’s sexual assault allegations, lying about his military service, using campaign cash to buy himself a car, being twice fired from the office he seeks, or now breaking state election laws, Diego Morales should be disqualified in running for public office. And yet, he’s on the ballot on Tuesday, and voters have a serious choice. 

Hoosiers want an election system that is safe, secure, legal, fair, and balanced. Veteran and attorney Destiny Wells is the only candidate for secretary of state who can win on Election Day and who would protect our elections and our Hoosier democracy.”
