INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Democratic Party is launching a new weekly series called We Listened So You Don’t Have To: The Micah Beckwith Weird Weekly Roundup. It will serve as a one-stop-shop that summarizes all the weird, offbeat, and simply gross things Beckwith says as he and Braun continue to drag themselves towards election night. Bonus: At the end of every Roundup, we’ll include the cherry on top, AKA that week’s weirdest moment.
This week’s items include (and take a deep breath before proceeding):
- Beckwith posted a collage to his Facebook account featuring a fake photo of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg wearing a breastfeeding device while holding his child. Confused? We were too.
- On X, Beckwith reposted AG Rokita’s transphobic Tweet in addition to publishing his own, calling an Algerian female Olympic boxer “a dude” who “beat up a girl.” All despite the fact that gender transitions are banned in Algeria. For a state politician, he seems less-than-focused on improving Indiana.
- Beckwith’s gubernatorial running mate Mike Braun has failed to pass a comprehensive farm bill despite being a legislator for 6 years and claiming to know what farmers need and deserve. Despite this, even Beckwith says we need a new farm bill in his social post Monday. Maybe he should tell his running mate to vote for one. Let’s ensure this is the final time Braun and Beckwith can ever fail our farmers by electing Jennifer McCormick and Terry Goodin this fall.
And the cherry on top?
This week marks the two-year anniversary of the passage of Indiana becoming the first state to ban abortion after the Dobbs decision, which almost entirely illegalized abortion in the state. Beckwith opposed that ban because it didn’t go far enough – he rallied for no exceptions for rape or incest survivors.
In the years before and after, Beckwith has continuously attacked women’s rights activists. At one point, he was quoted in the IndyStar following an address he made to a group of activists saying during the bill’s passage, “It was very demonic. There is nothing good about taking an innocent life. We’re here today to let the legislators know in the supermajority Republican legislature that they are now expected to do what is right, not in our eyes, but in God’s eyes.”
