ICYMI: Only 17-percent of Hoosiers support a total ban in abortion access – including in cases of rape, incest, and life of the mother
Jennifer-Ruth Green: “…praying that the Supreme Court does not back down” from revoking a nearly 50-year precedent to protect legal and safe abortions for women
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today called on Jennifer-Ruth Green to clarify her opposition to abortion. The ask comes two days after a draft opinion by the U.S. Supreme Court was leaked to the press showing the nation’s highest court fully overturning the historic Roe v. Wade ruling which constitutionally guaranteed women access to safe and legal abortions nearly 50 years ago. It’s time Green shares her plan on how far she will restrict abortion access for Hoosier women.
Should rape survivors be forced to carry their rapist’s baby to term?
Should women who experience incest be expected to carry the baby to term?
Should a woman be forced to give birth knowing it could kill her?
Only about 17-percent of Hoosiers support criminalizing abortions in all forms – including in cases of rape, incest, and the life of the mother. Further, the Indiana GOP has indicated they plan to call for a special session the moment the Supreme Court’s decision becomes official next month. It’s without a doubt the Indiana GOP’s effort to join a national bandwagon is dangerous and will diminish the state’s future.
The Indiana Democratic Party wants to be very clear: ending Roe v. Wade does not end abortions. It ends access to safe and legal abortions – especially for vulnerable communities nationwide. Democrats know that healthcare decisions should be made in consultation with a doctor or health care professional – not a politician, and it’s why leaders like Congressman Frank Mrvan, Hammond Mayor Tom McDermott, Destiny Wells, and others will crisscross the state to share with Hoosiers about why it’s time to protect women, families, and healthcare across Indiana.
Indiana Republicans show time and time again they have no plans for Indiana – just dangerous partisanship.
