INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today called on elected members of the Indiana Republican Party to ignore the extreme demands by former President Donald Trump to walk away from the bipartisan deal on some of the American Jobs Plan. The former president issued his partisan demands in a statement over the weekend, and his words risk dismantling the compromise made by U.S. Senator Todd Young (a Republican), Democrats, and President Joe Biden to revitalize Indiana’s infrastructure system. Further, Trump’s hollow remarks are in direct opposition to the 68-percent of American voters – including 41-percent of Republicans – who wish to see the Jobs Plan help create a better future for states like Indiana.
It’s worth asking: Which side will Republican Members of Indiana’s Congressional delegation vote? Will they support their Republican colleague (Todd Young) and the infrastructure deal or will they abide by their Party’s extreme partisanship once again and risk holding Indiana back from a better future?
Should Indiana Republicans fall in line with the former president once again, it’ll be the second time in a year where they chose to put their extreme partisanship ahead of delivering for Hoosier families. Both the American Rescue Plan and the American Jobs Plan are supported by a large majority of voters, and Democrats are set to campaign on these policies into the 2022 midterm elections.
Further, Indiana Democrats brought to light how some Republicans like U.S. Senator Mike Braun and Congressmen Jim Baird have already defaulted to their Party’s extreme partisanship. Democrats, however, are hopeful some Congressional Republicans from Indiana will join Congressmen André Carson and Frank Mrvan in supporting the American Jobs Plan. Not only will the Jobs Plan revitalize the state’s infrastructure system – like repairing Indiana’s 1,100 deficient bridges – but it’ll also take broadband access to the next level, eliminate childcare deserts, and update health care facilities for Indiana’s veterans.

Former President Trump urged “RINO Republicans” to stop negotiating with Democrats over a bipartisan infrastructure deal, saying they are “just being played.”
“RINO Republicans should stop negotiating the infrastructure deal—you are just being played by the Radical Left Democrats—they will give you nothing!” Trump said in a statement late Friday, using the acronym for Republican In Name Only.
“Very important that Senate Republicans not allow our hard-earned tax reductions to be terminated or amended in an upward trajectory in any way, shape, or form,” he said. “They should not be making deals on increasing taxes for the fake infrastructure proposals being put forward by Democrats, almost all of which goes to the ridiculous Green New Deal Marxist agenda.
