Requests election board to clarify VP’s claimed residency
INDIANAPOLIS – On Wednesday, Indiana Democratic Party Chairman John Zody delivered a letter to the Marion County Election Board requesting information concerning the absentee ballot cast by Vice President Mike Pence in Tuesday’selection. In a letter to the Board, Zody requested records to determine whether the Vice President had potentially voted from an address where he no longer resides.
“We agree with the Vice President’s rhetoric – we should be working to strengthen Hoosiers’ confidence in our electoral system,” said Zody. “Asking for more information about how he cast his vote in this primary election will go a long way toward that.”
The Indiana Governor’s Residence appears to be the Vice President’s last known Indiana residence. Pence sold his Columbus home before moving to Indianapolis following his election as governor. The Vice President, then, appears to intend to return to 4750 N. Meridian Street. Indiana statute (IC 3-5-2-42.5) requires a person, when absent from their residency, to have the intention to return. Zody doubted that intention.
“If the Vice President intends to return to the Governor’s Residence, I’m betting that’s news to Governor Holcomb and to Hoosiers,” said Zody. “We are requesting an explanation.”
