INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Democratic Party Chairman John Zody issued the following statement ahead of Carrier’s announced layoffs.
“Today, more than 200 Hoosiers will lose their jobs. Jobs that did more than put food on the table and a roof overhead: they provided families a real sense of economic security. That they had worked hard and earned everything they have. That’s now gone. These families still have bills to pay, still have to get their kids ready for school, but now face these realities without the security of a steady paycheck. This isn’t limited to today, or Carrier, or Indianapolis. It’s playing out across our state in small towns and large cities alike. The 700 laid off workers at United Technologies’ Huntington facility deserve better. Their families deserve better. They deserve empathy and they deserve action. They deserve a governor and leaders with a plan to grow the Hoosier economy and grow Hoosiers’ wages. All these working families want is another shot to earn their way. They’re waiting. Is Governor Holcomb listening?”
