INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Democratic Party Chairman John Zody issued the following statement ahead of Governor Eric Holcomb’s re-election announcement.
“Eric Holcomb doesn’t work for working Hoosiers. While the rising cost of living has Hoosier households struggling to get by, let alone get ahead, Holcomb doled out big raises to political appointees and cut taxes for big corporations while raising them on working families. Holcomb promised raises for Hoosier educators then didn’t deliver a dime specifically earmarked to raise teacher pay. Educators can’t pay the bills or put food on the table with Holcomb’s empty words. He promised an education system that gives every kid a strong start, but nine out of 10 low-income 4-year-olds still don’t have a seat in preschool. Holcomb has enabled a culture of corruption at the Statehouse by shoveling tens of millions of taxpayer dollars into shoddy, for-profit school operators and defrauding needy veterans. Holcomb’s list of accomplishments is as unidentifiable to Hoosier families as the governor himself. Three years into his term, Holcomb hasn’t worked across the aisle to help Hoosier families get ahead. They deserve a governor that works for them.”
