INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Democratic Party Chairman John Zody issued the following statement after Republican leaders largely sidestepped the crisis at the Department of Child Services during the 2018 session.
“After a disaster like a tornado or flood, leaders act. They develop a plan to help put communities back on track and are rightfully judged by how attentive they are to the afflicted. The crisis at the Department of Child Services is no different. It’s a similar test of leadership and Governor Holcomb is failing. The devastation doesn’t photograph like a flood, but have no doubt lives are just as irrevocably impacted by the failures at DCS. After getting caught without a plan, Holcomb and Statehouse Republicans made a cold calculation in wiggling out of taking any action this session: people wouldn’t notice. It’s shameful maneuvering. It seems like Holcomb is more concerned with saving his political career than the lives of vulnerable children.”
