INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Democratic Party Chairman John Zody issued the following statement on Republicans’ efforts to end portions of the Affordable Care Act.
“Senator Todd Young and Governor Eric Holcomb confirmed they will fall faithfully in line with Washington DC Republican Party bosses, even if it could cost the Indiana economy billions. This fight saw some Republicans stand up to party leadership and step up for the well-being of their constituents. Young and Holcomb? They stepped back when Hoosiers needed their leadership most. They recklessly endorsed partisan health care “plans” they’d never seen, let alone analyzed. They see governing as a means to create one-sided political victories rather than as a way to forge consensus that ultimately improves the lives of Hoosiers. Even this morning, Young bent to pressure from GOP leaders, voting “yes” on a bad bill that would have undoubtedly resulted in Hoosiers losing health care coverage and that was ultimately rejected by the Senate. Indiana Democrats will continue to bring more people to the table and work with anyone committed to ensuring Hoosiers have access to affordable, high-quality health care. It’s the kind of leadership Hoosiers expect.”
