Welcome to Three Things We’re Watching This Week, a new series by the Indiana Democratic Party designed to keep you in the loop about the three-most need-to-know items happening this week in Washington and at our Statehouse in Indianapolis.
Below, you can find three things we’re watching this week in the Trump Administration and three bills we’re keeping an eye on at the Statehouse in Indianapolis.
Three Things — Week of Feb. 24 — Federal
- USPS Mail Backups in Indianapolis — Significant delays at the new USPS Indianapolis center are causing major headaches for Hoosiers all across the state. All nine congresspeople of both parties signed a letter urging immediate action from Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to make sure Hoosiers can receive the necessities and medication they rely on. What you can do: Call your Congressman, along with Senators Banks and Young to demand a fully-funded and fully-staffed post office.
- DOGE’s Chainsaw to Needed Programs — Federal Workers here in Indiana have lost their jobs, including some who work for the Indiana Dunes National Park and the National Park Service. Call your Congressional representatives and tell them to demand answers for Hoosiers who have lost their jobs.
- Federal Funding on Hold For Hoosier Projects — DOGE cuts have put on pause a n international development program at Purdue and a solar farm on a landfill in Indianapolis, with jobs at risk across the state. Programs at Purdue help bring the best and brightest to Indiana. Tell Senator Young and your House representatives to protect funding for critical Hoosier projects.
Three Things — Week of Feb. 24 — State
- Bill to Annex Parts of Southern Illinois — This Bill moved out of the House and is going to the State Senate. Tell your Senator that you demand that Hoosiers be put first. This is a backward proposal focused on putting Illinoisans before Hoosiers
- Bills to Make School Board Elections Partisan — The partisan school board bill died in the House but the Senate’s version passed. Tell your representatives as they come back from break to defeat this bill that brings national politics into our schools.
- Break Week — This is the Break Week for the Indiana General Assembly, as bills that passed their original House of origin are passed to the other chamber. When you call your representative, ask if they will be holding a town hall during this break.
